We will come to your home at your convenience, with the products of your choice! We decided to offer a diaper consultation service for Shuswap residents because we are passionate about protecting our beautiful planet. We feel that if people knew what “today’s” cloth diapers were all about- Many more people would make the switch!

Do you find all the choices in cloth diapers overwhelming? If so, you’ve come to the right place! It is our personal goal to assist you in choosing a diapering system that will work for you and your family. Below is a basic rundown of the types of cloth diapers that we carry, listed from ‘easiest’ to ‘largest learning curve’. If any of your questions are not answered below, please feel free to contact us, and we will reply as soon as we are able.

Ladybug Baby Kanga

The easiest option is Pocket Diapers. Out of all the diapering options listed here, they are the most convenient. They go on as easily as a disposable, so they are great for dads and babysitters. We stock Baby Kangas One Size Pouch Diapers, and the Bum-Genius 3.0 Pocket Diaper.
Most ‘pockets’ are comprised of 2 layers: an outer waterproof layer, and an inner layer such as micro fleece or suede cloth. These materials both wick moisture to the Inner absorbent layer, keeping your wee one’s bum dry.
The absorbent core is called a ‘stuffer’ or ‘insert’. It is inserted into a pocket opening in the back, inside or front of the diaper. Many different types of stuffers or inserts are available.
Jamtots recommends using the JamTots ONE-SIZE Hemp Stuffers for Baby Kangas.
The Bum Genius 3.0 comes with two micro-terry inserts-newborn and one size. The newborn stuffer can later be used as a ‘booster’ for naps or nighttime. When the diaper is soiled, knock any solids into the toilet, unzip or open pocket opening and shake the insert into your diaper pail. If your child is exclusively breast-fed, there is no need to rinse! Breast milk BM’s will disintegrate in the wash. Pocket Diapers range in price from about $18.00 to $30.00 each.

Sugar Peas Fitted Diapers

Next up are fitted diapers. Fitteds are comprised mainly of three different absorbent fabrics: Cotton, bamboo or hemp. Fitted diapers require a waterproof cover (please see below). We carry Sugar Peas 2-size Hemp Fitted Diapers. These diapers come in two sizes; Size 1- Babies 6-20 lbs, and Size 2- Babies 18-38 lbs. All Sugar Peas 2-size Hemp Fitted Diapers are made entirely of organic hemp fleece which makes them extremely absorbent. They also have a built in fold out soaker for ease of use and faster washing and drying!
We also plan to stock hand made Fitteds when they are available locally.

All fitted diapers require a cover. We carry Bummis Super Whisper Wrap covers, made from PUL (polyurethane laminate, or laminated polyester) and a selection of Handmade Wool Soakers, Shorties and Skirties. Some are hand knit; others are made from beautiful re-purposed wool right here in BC. See our hand-made section for examples. For wool wash and care instructions, please see our Diaper Wash and Care section.
Fitted diapers range in price from approximately $10.00 to $18.00 each.

Pre-fold diapers require a waterproof cover. Pre-folds are the most economic option. They range in price from approximately $2.50 to $9.00 a piece. Prefolds have the highest learning curve. They must be folded to fit your child, which can be both convenient and difficult at the same time! They also require a pin or a snappi fastener to hold them closed. We carry un-bleached DSQ (diaper service quality) pre-folds.
